Long Mynd Wild Camp & Landscape photography

In this month's blog post, I invite you to join me on an unforgettable journey to the Long Mynd, where I set off on a wild camping adventure and captured one of my most cherished landscape images.

On the 27th of August 2022, my journey commenced with a train ride from Wellington to Church Stretton. However, an unexpected turn of events led me to Ludlow, as the train failed to make its scheduled stop. Nevertheless, this detour provided an opportunity for me to obtain additional supplies, including snacks, from a nearby Tesco something Samwise would have been proud of.

Upon my return to Church Stretton, I embarked on a trek up the Long Mynd, following the path alongside the picturesque 'Town Brook.' Carrying approximately 15kg of gear, I took my time, pausing frequently to marvel at the surrounding scenery, observe the local wildlife, and contemplate the beauty of life itself.

Arriving at my destination just before sunset, I set up my camp differently this time using, a tarp supported by trekking poles, with a hammock/bivvy nestled beneath.

This setup provided an open and airy shelter, allowing me to gaze at the stars from the comfort of my sleeping quarters. With camp established, I indulged in a satisfying supper. A 'Summit to eat' dehydrated chicken tikka meal.

Anticipating the dawn, I set my alarm early the next morning, ensuring I wouldn't miss the sunrise. By 5 a.m., I had packed away my gear, enjoyed a breakfast bar or two, and patiently awaited the sun's ascent.

The sun emerged from behind the Wrekin as dawn broke, casting a mesmerising pinkish-orange glow across the deep purple heather. I felt privileged to witness nature's glory with no one else around. It was a moment only for me, etched in memory.

After sunrise, I spent a few hours exploring Long Mynd and taking more photos of the beautiful golden hour colours. With the sun rising, signalling the end of golden hour, I returned to town, where I treated myself to a comforting fry-up before catching the train home.
